Lavender & Herbs: Where Spring Begins

Posted by Cathy Smith on

The Spring Equinox is one of the most exciting times of the year, when the day and night are equal, before light slowly pulls ahead. It signifies the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

It’s an especially exciting time here at the farm. Anticipation turns into preparation as we begin preparing for May/June, when our you-pick lavender fields open.

After winter, most of us feel a little stiff, mentally and physically, and we love to lean into the equinox as we move forward.

Lavender fits that transition perfectly. It calms the nervous system and clears mental clutter without making you sluggish.

When blended with other herbs, it creates a balance that mirrors the equinox itself:

  • Lavender: encourages calm clarity
  • Rosemary: brings focus and mental energy
  • Chamomile: creates softness and emotional ease
  • Mint: brings a refreshing lift and forward momentum

Together, they’re the herbal equivalent of taking a deep breath before stepping outside after a long winter.

Herbal Tea Blend

If you have dried herbs at home (or if you’ve stocked up from our shop), this is an easy blend.

Ingredients:

  • • 1 tsp dried lavender buds
  • • 1 tsp dried chamomile
  • • ½ tsp dried rosemary, lightly crushed
  • • ½ tsp dried mint
  • • 2 cups hot water (not boiling)
  • • Optional: honey or a squeeze of lemon for sweetness

Directions:

  • Combine all herbs in a tea infuser or teapot.
  • Pour hot water over the herbs.
  • Steep for 5–7 minutes.
  • Sip slowly and set an intention for the season.

It’s a good tea for slow mornings or late afternoons when you can feel the season changing.

You can also give a few minutes of intention to spring.

Spring on a farm is about preparation, resetting, and getting ready for what’s coming. You can honor the equinox the same way.

Run a warm bath with one of our lavender bath bombs or add dried lavender and Epsom salt to the water. Shop our lavender bath bombs here

Let the scent settle on your body. Then, ask yourself two things:

  • What am I carrying with me from winter?
  • What am I ready to let grow next?

Out here, we know growth doesn’t happen overnight. It starts in steady preparation and small daily shifts.

That’s the spirit of the equinox.
